see, I knew someone would say that, which is why I mentioned in my original post that I knew someone was going to mention fuel or distance or whatever. I know. I know. There was a time when we used to burn coal. There was a time we had wooden ships. And there was a time in the 60s when our ships would break up into several pieces they give a countdown and then we’d have to slingshot around the moon to get to wherever we were going.
I want to advance to the point where we keep moving forward and we can do things better and better and better. It just seems like all the inner weight of people that did this stuff aren’t here anymore. I’d like to see us start to bend space. maybe nuclear rockets like they used the back in the topaz program. Just something better than what we had in the 1960s, which is exactly what we watched yesterday splashdown and the exact same way things have been splashing down since the 1960s. Do you get it? I want to get out of the 60s and I want to get into the next century.
But we are as far removed from the 60s as 2086 will be removed from today.
The progress I’ve seen in my lifetime is staggering.
I look at what my ancestors experienced from the 1860s to the 1960s...wow. And the 1960s to today is just as much WOW.
What makes you think we are NOT making progress and not making progress fast enough? You just cannot escape orbital mechanics and go straight-line to the moon. The world does not work that way.
In 1675, Isaac Newton wrote: “if I have seen further [than others], it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
Right now we use the force of repulsion to fly through space. It is limited to the fuel one can carry.
What we need to do is learn how to use the force of attraction. Then your power comes from all the matter in the Universe. Think of how the warm and cold air currents meeting create a force we call a tornado. The air currents carry no propulsion system yet they achieve speeds in the 100’s of mph.
A vacuum can crush a metal container, yet the vacuum is not even a material piece of matter. The pressure of the atmosphere is what provides the power source.
