May 1st has been been a holiday for socialists/communists for a long time. That is right. It was one of the reasons Pope Pius XII in 1955 established the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, to counteract the attempt to glorify Socialism and Communism in the name of the common working man. The feast honors St. Joseph as the patron saint of workers, emphasizing the dignity of labor.
