If Iran is allowed to control the Strait of Hormuz, China will seize control of the South China Sea. Yemen gets Bab-el-Mandeb, and will the Strait of Gibraltar go to Morocco or Spain? Denmark or Sweden will have to flip for the Baltic Sea, and we’ll have a difficult time with Russia over who gets the Bering Strait. There’s a thousand more sea passages ripe for control and tolls. Say goodbye to Freedom of Navigation.

Turkey has exercised full sovereignty and control over the Turkish Straits, which serve as the sole maritime gateway to the Black Sea, since the 1936 Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits.
