NASA astronaut and Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman took this picture of Earth from the Orion spacecraft’s window after completing the translunar injection burn. There are two auroras (top right and bottom left) and zodiacal light (bottom right) is visible as the Earth eclipses the Sun.
This and another photo of Earth are the first downlinked images from the Artemis II astronauts. See and hear what the astronauts do with our 24/7 feed.

Maybe they’re just on the other side, hahaha 😂
That is so good!
Well, it's got that hole in the middle, right?
They have to wait for the earth to pose, or take a very long detour on their trip to the moon. This was an opportunistic photograph.
I was in Subic Bay in the Philippines for the moon landings...:)
Hot, extremely humid to the point of shirt-drenching, brilliant and sunny, and we watched it on a small black and white television in a carport converted into a room on our house.
All we could see was a jet black screen with an intermittently visible, indistinguishable white smear or blob.
Yeah, this image is not real. Frustrating bungle by Nasa social media person.
I've met some genuine Flat Earthers - it's a disturbing experience to meet people who are that far gone. At first I thought that they were pulling my leg in jest, because it seemed to me nobody could be quite that stupid. Then, after talking to them, I realized that yes indeed, there are people that stupid in the world.
When I asked them about all of the photos taken of the Earth from space, they said that the photos were just CGI fakes. I pointed out that in 1969, there was no CGI, to no avail.
Then I pointed out that with a hobbyist's telescope you could see that the moon and various planets are spherical, and they said that the Earth is the exception - it's flat even if the other planets are spherical. When I tried to point out that the same spherically symmetric gravitational processes that caused space dust to accrete into the other planets formed the Earth in the same way, they said something like "the Earth is just different" again.
You can't fix brainwashing and a you can't fix stupid.
“If the Earth is flat”
I read somewhere recently where it was stated that ‘Cats are proof the Earth is not flat’.
They would’ve knocked everything off the edge by now.
Because the Artemis II spacecraft is between the Earth and a full moon, which reflects quite a lot of sunlight back to the Earth. I would also guess that the image has been processed somewhat, to lighten dark areas (much the way an iPhone’s camera processing can even out light and dark areas in low-light photos). You can see that it is in fact nighttime, as the lights of cities like Barcelona, Valencia, and Lisbon are visible, as are scattered lights in Africa.
Reflection off of the glass of the window.
That’s funny.
At the distance of the photograph (90,000 miles) the earth subtends
about 5 degrees. Mercury’s elongation is 3.7 degrees, so I suspect
the bright star at 4 o’clock is Mercury. The fuzzy patches at 1 and 7
o’clock are antarctic and arctic auroras, respectively. The moon is
nearly full. Sunny f/16 rule would indicate something equivalent to
f/16, ISO 10,000 and a four second exposure. YMMV.
Funny, I didn’t already see your post.
I guess we both believe the Earth is not flat lol
Taken with a Nikon D5
great minds...
When I asked the most recent Flat Earther I met why no pilot has ever taken photos of the edge of the Earth, he said that all pilots who’ve tried to do so were murdered or imprisoned by a conspiracy of Spherical-Earthers. I suppose that according to them, the vast Spherical Earth conspiracy must have started with Eratosthenes back in the Third Century BC.
And yet it was one of the highlights of your life.
I’m not sure that I actually remember the moon landing itself, but re-entry and the three huge red and white parachutes are seared in my then six-year old mind. That just amazed me.
Yes, by the Orbical of Delphi.
