They’re not worried about us leaving. They should. Trump has 3 more years to torment them before it happens. Show them what little ones they have. By then we’ll be in Greenland and Cuba.

“Is there even a point to NATO anymore?”

Well, it does give the Leftists the tools necessary to go around the world starting wars. But let’s see what the Zeepers think of NATO.

The CIA and Dulles enabled the "Rat Lines" for smuggling Nazi war criminals to freedom in South America.

NATO was quite effective. We were able to subsidize European defense so they could afford welfare which meant they opened their borders leading to invasion by Muslims.

All of that thanks to NATO.

Hitler's top spy, Reinhard Gehlen was hired by the CIA after cutting a deal with the government to gather info against the Russians, in exchange for immunity from all war-related charges. His spy group became known as The Gehlen Organization, and the CIA gave him $5 million a year to conduct their intelligence work with.

Initially, the CIA demanded that Gehlen provide them with the name of every person he hired to work for him. He refused, and they let that pass. They also demanded that he not hire any SS, SA, SD or German police. Another demand that wasn't followed.

Because individuals that Gehlen hired, went on to hire their own people, the organization ended up with SS, SA, SD, German Police and any other reprobate they could find. Gehlen actually had no idea who was working for him. And those down the line, used the organization to set up their own rat lines to help their Nazi buddies escape Europe. The CIA-funded side project helped over 5,000 Nazis flee Europe to South and Central America, including Adolf Eichmann and Josef Mengele.

The CIA on its own, had also hired war criminal Klaus Barbie, and helped move him and his family to South America. When French officials contacted the CIA about Barbie's whereabouts because they wanted to extradite him on war crimes, the CIA lied, and told them they had no idea where he was. In 1971, Nazi Hunters Serge and Beate Klarsfeld discovered Barbie was living in Peru. The Klarsfelds were persistent in their endeavors to have Barbie charged with war crimes, that the CIA dropped him, and he was finally extradited to France in 1983 to stand trial. Unfortunately by that time, France had eliminated the death penalty. Found guilty, Barbie was sentenced to life in prison. He died there in 1991.

During the 8 years Gehlen worked for the CIA, he gathered some good intelligence, and was able to infiltrate East Germany, but overall, the Gehlen Organization often had to resort to fantasy to keep the CIA satisfied with their work. They concocted wild stories based on confessions given by POWs returning from the Soviet Union, and told stories about advanced military technology and a nuclear program far ahead of the West’s. The CIA out of embarrassment dropped Gehlen and his group in 1956.

Within a short time, Gehlen becomes head of the Bundesnachrichtendienst, or Federal Intelligence Service, which was, and remains Germany’s equivalent of the CIA. But the triumph would not last. By 1968, numerous Soviet moles were exposed within the group and many of them had purportedly worked with Gehlen for decades. The moles even included Heinz Felfe, Gehlen’s longtime deputy. The shocking revelation resulted in Gehlen’s dismissal.

Gehlen, up until his death in 1979 was protected by both German and American leaders. The German newspaper, Der Spiegel noted decades after Gehlen’s death: “If there was ignorance on the matter, it was only because no one wanted to know.”

It was the Nazis all along?

This is recycled Cold War Soviet propaganda. Gehlen did not set up CIA.

“But let’s see what the Zeepers think of NATO.”

Not fair.

Everybody knows they love NATO above the USA.

The premise of the article is goofy anyhow. That was then, this is now.

The notion that the communist Soviet Union could ever or would ever be an ally to the West was a fairy tale, they were barbarians equally as rancid if not worse, just as bad as the Nazis. They had a real problem once Germany surrendered in May of ‘45, how to protect Europe from the Soviets.

The problem was compounded by the seemingly logical policy of “No Nazis” in the postwar government. This sounds good, but the available pool of prospective candidates were mostly communists. That was kind of the whole point. Oops.

Good point - they DEFINITELY put Europe first in their book, despite some of their personal claims.

*************

Only if protecting current European civilization, which is run by a bunch of arrogant deadbeats is your cup of tea.

However, talking about Nazis in 2026 to make your point is childish propaganda.
