I’m normally not one who likes to costume-up for Halloween, but about 20 years ago - my wife and I dressed up as Walter Sobchak (me) and Jeff Lebowski (her) for a friend’s Halloween party. My personality is more Walter (and she’s more Dude) anyway, but we actually practiced and prepared. I’m normally clean-shaven, but I even grew out and trimmed facial hair to match Walter — I already had everything else. We even re-watched the movie and practiced some scenes. It took all my discipline not to break character and and explain how and why Walter was right about “prior restraint” in the diner scene.

We were a BIG hit at the party. One of the few times my wife admitted “OK, you were right” - worth it just for that. But she wanted to do some typical couples costume and I convinced her we should go as Walter and the Dude - fortunately, she likes the movie nearly as much as me, so after some arm-twisting, she agreed.

The only downside was that yes - for about a month afterwards, whenever we had arguments, she’d slip into “Well, that’s just your opinion, man...” and it would drive me nuts!
