While the original focus was on questions about the Iran war, at the tail end of an impromptu presser yesterday, President Trump was asked about Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and the status of U.S. national security.
President Trump said he was very disappointed that President Sheinbaum refused his offer of assistance in eliminating the cartels in Mexico. Ultimately culminating in the statement, “the cartels are running Mexico.”
Considering everything President Trump is doing to secure the Western Hemisphere objective, it must be very frustrating to eliminate various narcotraffickers, human smugglers and transnational agents of chaos, and yet still have one of the closest geographic nations unwilling to address the biggest criminal elements near our borders.
The bilateral USMCA discussions between the U.S. and Mexico are ongoing, I think we can expect this element of friction and ultimately leverage to be present in the overall outcome.
Personally, I think if the government of Cuba flips, there will be exceptional pressure on Mexico to finally address the issue.

And some of Iran’s mullahs and IRGC commanders are fleeing to Canada. We have problems to the south and the north.

How many have read the book?
It has 5 stars.........................
“I like thinking big. I always have. To me it’s very simple: If you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big.”—Donald J. Trump
Yeah, well the democrat and media cartels run America at the pleasure of the Beltway bureaucracy.
I saw a video of the Iranian "death judge" waltzing out of the airport in full regalia.
I imagine Canada will give them a hero's welcome.
The cartels are entrenched in Mexico and there is only one way to crowbar them out of their positions... That’s with a bullet to the heads of all the cartel leaders.
Mexico will never “address the issue”.
As in, NEVER.
The “cartels” ARE Mexico.
That’s who and what they ARE. Nothing but a violent, stone age thugland with lousy genetics.
Sheinbaum does nothing and controls nothing. She’s a poster girl they hired to soften the image. Nothing more.
Trump has done a fabulous job of stopping the invasion, but the other side of that wall won’t quit. They got nuthin’ to sell except the bad stuff, and they want as many of their people inside the wall so they can extend their power here.
The kind of selective air attacks used in Iran should be used overwhelmingly on Los Narcos.
Sheinbaum allegedly was not supposed to be in the pocket of the cartels so its dissapointing that she is not taking up an offer to help get rid of them. Is it because her TDS overrides her desire to rid Mexico of the cartels? Is it because the cartels are just too powerful and she is afraid she will be killed if she tries? Who knows, but its disappointing. Trump may need to pull a “Punitive Expedition of 1916” like Progressive darling Woodrow Wilson did.
I’m afraid I’m with you completely on that. I recall years ago reading an article about the training grounds and land areas within the U.S.owned and controlled by Mexican drug cartels.
> Is it because the cartels are just too powerful and she is afraid she will be killed if she tries? <
Sheinbaum might have enough security to protect herself. But can she also protect all her nieces and nephews, and their families?
The American Mafia is an evil organization. But at least they will usually leave innocent bystanders alone. The Mexican cartels have no such compulsion. And they don’t just kill. They torture, then kill.
I can’t see how this problem can be solved from within Mexico.
They’re a clear and present danger to the security of the United States, echoing a line (and the title) from one of the better Harrison Ford/Jack Ryan movies.
Mexico will never “address the issue”. As in, NEVER. The “cartels” ARE Mexico.
Kind of like Canada, but much uglier in spirit.
Mexico’s first female president promised that there will be no return to the “irresponsible” drug war between the government and the cartels.
Claudia Sheinbaum, 62, pledged more intelligence work and investigations to tackle surging drug-related violence during her swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday.
“There will be no return to the irresponsible drug war,” she said.
Tackling organised crime remains a key political issue in Mexico following the “hugs, not bullets” strategy of her predecessor Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the Left-wing populist.
After taking office in 2018, Mr Obrador declared Mexico’s war on drug cartels “over” and began a policy of addressing the “root causes” of violence.
Northern Mexico was thrown into chaos after weeks of deadly gun battles between two factions of the Sinaloa cartel, the country’s biggest and most powerful narcotics gang.
At least 50 people have been killed in the clashes, which began on Sept 9 in the city of Culiacan and have since spread to other parts of Sinaloa.
Mexico’s drug war is considered to have begun in 2006, when Felipe Calderón, then president, sent troops to the state of Michoacán to tackle drug violence.
In her inauguration speech in Mexico’s congress, Ms Sheinbaumo said: “It’s time for transformation, it’s time for women.
“I’m a mother, a grandmother, a scientist and a woman of faith, and from today, by the will of the Mexican people, the president.”
Promises made, promises kept.
That’s how messed up the Canucks are.
From circa 1930, Chicago:
“According to the records of the State’s Attorney, or public prosecutor, there were in Chicago recently more than 90 rackets at work, and, despite an energetic public campaign since 1928, it is believed that at least 60 of them are still in full cry. The Employers’ Association estimates that the sum-total of tribute paid by the people of Chicago is not less than 186 million dollars a year, or, say, $45 for every man, woman and child in the city.”
