A red fox stowed away on a cargo ship that departed Southampton, England, and was found by customs officers at the Port of New York and New Jersey.
The Wildlife Conservation Society, which operates the Bronx Zoo in New York, said U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered the approximately 2-year-old male fox hiding among the ship's cargo when it arrived at the Port Authority.
The 11-pound fox was brought to the Bronx Zoo on Feb. 19.
"The fox is currently in the Animal Health Center at the Bronx Zoo, where it is under the care of the zoo's animal and veterinary teams. Initial examinations indicate that the fox appears to be in good condition," the WCS said. "Veterinarians are awaiting results from additional routine health screening."
A permanent home for the fox will be found once it is given a clear bill of health, officials said.

Not smart. Fox hunting is legal in the U.S., but not in England.
How about Lemont? Did he make the trip too?
You big dummy.
Although killing both foxes and dogs is illegal in the UK, he may have been worried that Muslims are allowed to do whatever they want in England.
Is that the (undocumented) Fox?
If so, he looks very healthy, still has his thick winter coat.
Well Tally Ho!
“Bet that fox feasted on the ship’s rats for the whole voyage.”

The article didn’t say whether any democrats were on board.
“You big dummy!”
Yup I admit that I first read it as Red Fox. And not Red fox. Very funny that many others read it the same way.
Anyone have a bottle of champipple?
I see pet foxes on you tube.
< raises hand>
My immediate reaction was “But isn’t he dead!?”
