Her famous portrait may have embellished her looks somewhat, making her look lighter in complexion than she was (light skin being an ideal of beauty in her times).
Eyewitnesses maintain that she had „olive skin“, though that simply might have meant that her skin was indeed „light tan“ by nature.
Many Britons have, by nature, very light, clear complexions which do not tan easily, but Anne Boleyn’s skin tone possibly tanned more easily than most other Britons did.
Thus, her skin type might have been regarded as „olive skinned“ by the standards of her mostly milk-white complected countrymen, just because she was „half a shade“ darker than they were.
