JUST IN: Trump Set to Endorse In Bruising Texas Senate Primary, Wants Other Candidate to ‘DROP OUT OF THE RACE!’

President Donald Trump teased an endorsement in Texas’s bruising GOP Senate primary on social media Wednesday, saying he will soon pick a candidate and asking the other to “DROP OUT OF THE RACE.”

On Tuesday night, the GOP primary between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) resulted in a run-off.

“The Republican Primary Race for the United States Senate in the Great State of Texas, a State I LOVE and won 3 times in Record Numbers (the HIGHEST vote ever recorded, by far!!!), cannot, for the good of the Party, and our Country, itself, be allowed to go on any longer. IT MUST STOP NOW!” Trump posted to Truth Social, adding:

We have an easy to beat, Radical Left Opponent, and we have to TOTALLY FOCUS on putting him away, quickly and decisively! Both John and Ken ran great races, but not good enough. Now, this one, must be PERFECT! My Endorsements within the Republican Party have been virtually insurmountable! It is such an honor to realize and say that almost everyone I Endorse WINS, and wins by a lot, especially in Texas! I will be making my Endorsement soon, and will be asking the candidate that I don’t Endorse to immediately DROP OUT OF THE RACE! Is that fair? We must win in November!!! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

The Atlantic’s Michael Scherer and Ashley Parker reported just before Trump’s post that the president is “expected” to endorse Sen. Cornyn following “following the incumbent’s better-than-expected finish.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) also signaled optimism that Trump will back his pick in the race – Cornyn. Thune told Punchbowl News on Wednesday that Trump’s endorsement “saves everybody a lot of money” and that “If the president can weigh in, it would make it enormously helpful.”

Thune tells me Cornyn “had a great night” and that an early Trump endorsement in the runoff “saves everybody a lot of money.”

“If the president can weigh in, it would make it enormously helpful” ahead of what will be a brutal runoff campaign

My sister in Texas is not fond of cornball but voted for him anyway because she doesn’t think Paxton could beat Talarico.

Very frustrating situation in Texas that could easily be solved if more damned conservatives would get off their butts and vote
...................................

That goes to say for the entire country.

“I’ll be not voting for Cornyn.

I’ve known him for 31 years. He’s a complete POS.”

.

Oh no he isn’t.

He is a liar and a coward as well.

If I were in TX, I would ignore a Trump endorsement for Cornyn, and vote for Paxton anyhow.

Trump isn’t always correct, e.g. Operation Warp Speed.

Trump seriously hurt MAGA by endorsing Lindsey Graham.

I don't know what "MAGA" is ...

I don't think Lindsey Graham is really good for America ... But that's for the State of South Carolina to decide. Not me, not you, and not Donald Trump.

I have a really low view of "endorsements".

I could care less if the Republican wing of the uniparty loses a Senate seat.

This is a democracy.

Elections have rules.

The rules in Texas say when two finish in a virtual dead heat with less than a majority you have a run off.

Since it was a virtual tie, then Trump should stay out of it.

If the margin had been near ten points then the argument for Trump endorsing makes sense.

I HATE politics because of all the strategizing.

And all the stupid money it takes to BUY a seat in the snake pit of the United States Senate.

One think I KNOW, Cornyn has NOT earned an endorsement from Trump and Cornyn has earned nothing but CONTEMPT from this MAGA supporter.

Let them fight it out fairly.

Maybe, just maybe one of them comes out of the fight giving folk a reason to elect them in the general.

Although I cannot see Cornyn the winner in that outcome.

Wesley Hunt should be happy that his ass is in the House. But no, that’s not enough.

Hunt played the role of spoiler which prevented Paxton from getting 50% + of the vote.

Does he have an offshore bank account?

Asking for a friend.

A huge mistake if President Trump endorses Cornyn as Cornyn is a RINO and a loser. He will lose to Talarico as voters are tired of old men and women who refuse to retire gracefully. Three totally unreliable so-called Republican Senators who have rarely supported President Trump are the half-dead McConnell, Thune, Cornyn and a few others.

Let’s see whom Hunt endorses now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He will endorse who Trump tells him to. He won’t risk alienating Trump and having to deal with the “only Trump” zombie horde.
I guess President Trump did not tell Hunt to not run, because without Hunt we wouldn't be heading for the runoff election that Trump is so worried about now.
But as everyone says, at least if the other candidate drops out, and you don’t vote your checking the box for the Democrat.
I might reconsider......better than that loony toon Talarico. He’s a nut!!!
