Don't be disheartened by the Greens "winning" that special election. Reform killed it in a very lefty constituency who decided to side with the Greens and abandon the ruling Labor party .
The hope was always for a split vote but it looks like tactical voting played a part.
However, apply the swing and numbers nationally and Reform are doing VERY well.
Reform is finished.
The beacons are lit. Restore Britain or revolution.
I doubt that
Look at the numbers. They did very well. They just couldn’t cobble together a majority in a Left district that swung behind the Green Party and abandoned Labour
Bob got it spot on in the other thread
So the voters think they need more immigration. Yes, that will solve their problems.
I think restore is the revolution and that was the problem with reform - well we have some problems and we need to fix some things but let’s not go to far and throw the beloved illegals out with the bathwater. No!!!!
That district is not representative of the entire country.
But Reform did show very well with 10k votes and a massive swing.
“The hope was always for a split vote but it looks like tactical voting played a part.”
Labour/Greens got more than twice what Reform got, no matter how they split the vote one of them was going to beat Reform
There are only two near-certainties in British electoral politics. One is that a 3rd (4th or 5th) party will do well in a mid-term by-election under an unpopular government. The other is that this will have no bearing on what happens at a subsequent General Election.
One thing I do like about this result- for the first time for decades there is a genuine skilled manual worker as an MP
What I fear will happen in the UK is, Labor will go even further left matching the Greens in lunacy, no party will have a majority and Labor and the Greens will form a coalition government allowing them to govern even though Reform will have the most votes.
Check out the demographic changes for Gorton and Denton over the last 20 years.
Family voting is an issue for very good reason.
