The leading icon of the American Right in the 1960s into the 1970s was Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-AZ). He was so beloved that the party’s base made him their presidential nominee in 1964 despite the widespread belief that he was too “extreme” to ever get elected (LBJ crushed him in a landslide). He represented Arizona in the US Senate for 30 years.
Goldwater (whose father was Jewish) talked to Pat Buchanan in 1988 about many topics. Here’s what he said about Israeli influence in the US:

The 1964 Reagan speech that you reference was given in support of Goldwater. Goldwater openly supported Reagan in 1980. Their only conflict was when Goldwater backed incumbent Jerry Ford when Reagan challenged him in 1976.

Sobran and Buchanan were/are sincere Catholics and they could be partisan at times. They, and some Jewish opponents, had an ugly fight over some issues that I thought both could have easily ignored, but they obviously didn’t share my view. That could be what disappointed you as well.

If you can step back and look impartially you will see history repeating itself. And we know how it always ends.
In the real world there are always many options available to getting free of censorship—far short of physical attacks on the censors.
However—the longer the censorship reign continues the stress on the system continues to build—and the possibility for moderate and reasonable options begins to narrow.
That is why some of us oppose censorship of political speech in all of its forms for very practical reasons—it creates a potential for violent revolution in the future.
A “soft landing” is always the best option.
