Glenn Greenwald
The leading icon of the American Right in the 1960s into the 1970s was Sen. Barry Goldwater (R-AZ). He was so beloved that the party’s base made him their presidential nominee in 1964 despite the widespread belief that he was too “extreme” to ever get elected (LBJ crushed him in a landslide). He represented Arizona in the US Senate for 30 years.
Goldwater (whose father was Jewish) talked to Pat Buchanan in 1988 about many topics. Here’s what he said about Israeli influence in the US:

My problem is not with Jews, it’s with leftist Jews.
“My problem is not with Jews, it’s with leftist Jews.”
Yep. And they are the majority and many hold powerful positions and are very activists... often against their own interests... and America’s.
And he was born in The Arizona Territory,
so not a NBC,
and not eligible to be POTUS.
Go ahead, flame away
Conservative Jews hate leftist Jews more than anyone. The same as conservative Christians despise leftist and fake Christians
Oooh that’s interesting.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the ADL called the (partly Jewish) Goldwater an “anti-semite” for his statements about the power and influence of the Israeli lobby.
Ok. You’re an idiot.
Did this ever come up in the 60s?
Goldwater’s naive thinking is what led to the “Land for Peace” initiatives under Clinton and Bush. PLO was allowed to run the West Bank. It resulted in intifada, suicide bus bombers, and car jihad. Gaza was given to the Muslims. It resulted in 3 major invasions and incessant katusha missile attacks. Israel needs to take off the gloves bring this issue to a close. Ethnic relocation of Arab colonizers.
Were his parents citizens?

He became a loser in the 80’s and bitter at Reagan. He was a Libertarian.
Reagan’s Conseratism was more Populist than Goldwaters.
From my limited knowledge (im a spring chicken) he was a straight talker with traditional views and you can’t have that in politics so he was smeared relentlessly
That proud tradition has been carried on by Ron Paul, Rand Paul and the now more famous Thomas Massie (who is being talked up as an independent presidential candidate for ‘28 such is the “you’re not welcome in the GOP” rhetoric)
We’ll see about that but there are plenty of posters on here who hold those kind of views. They try and demand my banishment claiming i don’t belong on a conservative site
Anyone who jokes about nuclear Ear doesn’t deserve to be President. He was a terrible candidate.
Geoge Washington, etc born in British colonies
He was still a citizen. And would have been grandfathered in if it were an issue.
I loved small (l) libertarian thought when I was younger. As I become (hopefully) wiser I think it utopian in that it relies on man’s rationality. I think that libertarian thought provides a good counterbalance to the more puritanical impulses of a heavily Christian society. When it is the opposition to leftist ideologies it is a suicide pact as you may literally sell the rope that hangs you.
