Have a nephew who did backcountry skiing for several years. Gave it up due to several people in their group becoming overconfident and too much risk taking. They had to pull people out of tree wells on a couple of occasions.
a lot of people don’t know what a tree well is and most have not stood on 7 feet of snow next to a line shack looking at the top of a roof next to their snow machine. It’s a regional thing and to a lot of people it doesn’t register.
Years ago at Aspen Mtn. I had to release the bindings on my brother’s skis. He was head down in a tree well and hanging by his skis. We were not out of bounds...
