The Major League Baseball Players Association unanimously elected Bruce Meyer as its new executive director Wednesday night, replacing Tony Clark the day after he resigned amid scandal less than a year before the expiration of MLB's collective bargaining agreement.

Clark resigned Tuesday following an internal investigation that revealed an inappropriate relationship with his sister-in-law, whom the union had hired in 2023. A federal investigation into the MLBPA concerning questions about its finances and governance prompted the union to hire an independent lawyer, whose inquiry exposed the inappropriate relationship.
Player leaders had been girding for Clark's departure, though the timing of it -- on the day he was supposed to address the Cleveland Guardians on the first stop of the union's tour of all 30 camps -- left them scrambling. By Wednesday morning, prior to their election, Meyer and Nussbaum were leading a meeting with the Kansas City Royals and reiterating the union's firm anti-cap stance.

Cheated and gave her a job. It’s too easy to get caught if you make it easy.
Nailing his sister in law??? I’ll need pictures before I can issue a judgement.
The news is bending over backwards to not only conceal her picture but name as well.
There's ignorant comments - and then there's your comment.
Good friggin' grief.
This isn’t the DU....or Bluesky
Who knows what this means for the tough negotiations coming up.
The labor agreement with the players union expires after this season. There has been talk that the sides are so far apart on various issues, that next season is in jeopardy. The thinking is the owners would lock out the players and just not play next season without an agreement.
Are baseball teams losing money? They keep this information close to the vest. But for what i’ve heard, if next season is delayed or canceled, it would be because that’s what the owners want.
But then we’ll see what happens with a new players union director. , he’s got a full plate.
I don’t follow hockey, but I recall hearing that the National Hockey League lost a full season because of labor problems. It seems to me that would be a last resort but stay tuned.
And the side piece white females doing the Horizontal Tango with these brothers? Lack of impulse and genetic defect there, too? Or maybe unsatisfied with white men?

Would anyone notice? I can’t watch a Minnesota Twins game on tv unless I pay for it. Screwum.
That’s the great thing about Free Republic.....I can say what I want and for anyone who doesn’t like it it’s just too damned bad
That’s cold to do that to your own sister.
Was that his brother’s wife or his wife’s sister?
I get the MLB Audio subscription which also includes all video for MiLB. Wish the MiLB app was a bit better (to watch video, the app has to front and center - no hitting the home button and the video adjusting in one of the corners of the screen on an iPhone.
But a good way to see players still hoping to make it to MLB teams.
Agreed!

Thanksgiving dinner is gonna suck this year for him.
I couldn’t wait for the answer, so I looked it up.
“Tony Clark has been married to Frances Clark for several decades, though details about their wedding remain private. The couple has three children: daughters Kiara (born September 20, 1994) and Jazzin (born September 15, 1997), and son Aeneas (born March 7, 2002). Frances has maintained a low profile throughout Clark’s career, from his days as a first baseman for teams like the Detroit Tigers to his leadership role at the MLBPA. The sister-in-law is reportedly Frances’s sister, adding a deeply personal layer to the controversy.”
Ohnoes!
Furrymom has squealed on your post #4 like the little female dog she is.
Good thing Furrymom has got my Q1 Freepathon contribution covered! 😂😂
