When I was growing up in the 1980s, I often saw old war movies on TV, and in many appeared a certain German actor usually playing a Nazi villain, from 'Where Eagles Dare' to 'Escape to Victory'. I recently discovered that this star, Anton Diffring, is buried only 9 miles from my childhood home, so I decided to make a pilgrimage and find his largely forgotten last resting place and thank him for so many great performances.

Reinhard koldehoff, is another German actor who appeared in a lot of movies, he was Goering in The Winds of War. But I also recognized him in Soldier Of Orange, and Operation Daybreak.
I liked “The Winds of War”. A number of people don’t, but...I did.
One of my favorites.
I liked “The Winds of War”. A number of people don’t, but...I did.
It was pretty true to the book, a bit too soap opery at times, but, the parts that portrayed the Holocaust (also in War and Remembrance), were as brutal as any depiction of it.

One of the creepiest Nazi characters ever portrayed!
He was also in both The Winds of War and War And Remembrance.
Great in A Bridge Too Far. And The Wild Geese.
Absolutely “soap opery” but it WAS in the early Eighties, and there were a LOT of things like that.
IMHO the most evil portrayal of a Nazi was that of Gustav Wagner in “Escape From Sobibor”.
The Hitler from Winds of War, was much better than Stephen Berkhoff’s Hitler in War And Remembrance.
Yes the great achievement of those two series was the honest and accurate depiction of The Holocaust. And Thank Gawd Ali McGraw and Jan Michael Vincent were replaced for WAR AND REMEMBRANCE.
I have read the book, but never seen the movie.
Will watch it on your recommendation...:)
The child with the flower scene totally devastated me when I saw it.
The actor who played the Auschwitz Commandant, Hoess, was very good.
Speaking of, “The Zone Of Interest” is a movie I highly recommend.
Of course, the Hitler in “Downfall” was the best, IMO.
I laugh every time I think of some German watching those parodies, and seeing the subtitles...it must be quite puzzling for them!
Downfall is such a great movie. But I had to skip the part with the Goebbels’ children, just could not watch that.
Yes I watched it. it really creeped me out.
So smooth, so glib, so linguistically gifted..... and such a bastard!
One of the creepiest Nazi characters ever portrayed!
That’s a bingo!
Also August Diehl was fantastic in that movie, as well.
