HGTV's Rehab Addict has been canceled after its star, Nicole Curtis, was caught using a racial slur while filming the series

A video of Curtis using the n-word while filming the show was posted by Radar on Wednesday, Feb. 11, the same day it was set to return

"Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees - it does not align with the values of HGTV," the network said in a statement to PEOPLE

This happened to a friend of mine. He was a really good high school football coach who was very close with his players who were almost all black. He was hanging out with a bunch of players when some other players were coming up and he made a comment like ‘that’s a bunch of N’s coming in.’ Trying to be funny. Bad idea. One kid in about 20 reported it and he was fired immediately. He was able to travel around Florida and get other coaching jobs but the NAACP followed him all over the state and repeatedly got him fired. I don’t know what happened to him after that. The lesson is, no second chances for white people.
