Other places in Italy that are well worth visiting are Ravenna, Florence, Lucca and Syracuse. Also Volterra and Aosta although both of those are a bit out of the way. Volterra is a small walled city on a mountaintop with one of the best collections of Etruscan art anywhere. Aosta is in the foothills of the Alps and has some Roman ruins.
