This is the first I’ve heard of a school providing independent study materials to counter a teacher’s strike. Nice.

Concentrating on school children, school districts often provide independent study materials and optional supervision during a teacher’s strike to maintain some educational continuity.

The district also continues receiving state attendance-based funding.

In February 2026, San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) responded to a teachers strike by offering independent study, along with free meals and childcare, to manage student learning during the teacher disruption.
