Get yourself one of these and anchor it into the joices (very important!). Get into the habit of using it every night before you go to bed. That’s what I did. It will buy you a lot of time to get the guns out.

And don’t stop there. Look into heavy-duty door strikers, with long screws that anchor them into the king studs. And get a doorknob reinforcement. There’s even more you can do.
You can mount a Ring or other camera with a security light, that comes on with motion at night.
