I have found Italian Queens bred in Texas to be my most predictable in behavior hives. I twice bought “Caucasian, and Carniolan” queens for hive re-queening. They are marketed as docile. I found nothing could be further from reality. The hives became dangerous to the neighborhood. One lawn mower two hundred feet away would but them on alert.
The Caucasian Mountain strain is the docile one, the Caucasian flatlanders are the opposite. At least that’s what the bee encyclopedia from 1946, that I once read, said.
