Toronto’s indigenous name for a park does not trip lightly off the tongue
American Thinker ^ | 2/6/2026 | Andrea Widburg

mericans are finally learning that, six years ago, Toronto baptized an urban park with a painfully long, awkward name in the Huron-Wendat language. (snip) If you look at what the AWFL person behind the Canadian rename had to say, you’ll understand that leftists aren’t just being silly; they have a goal.(snip)

It seems that in 2018, Toronto built a nice urban park, which it intended to call “Woodsy Park,” (snip) However, because this is Canada, which has now decided to lose the war it fought and won against the indigenous people many centuries ago, the chosen park name was considered insufficiently disrespectful. Instead, to honor the “First People,” as Canadians call the aboriginal people, Toronto renamed the park. The current name is Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Park, which also includes the Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Recreation Center, both of which are located on Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Lane.

That really trips off the tongue of the native English speaker, doesn’t it? (snip)

Shelley Carroll, the very white middle-aged lady* who was then and still is now a member of the Toronto City Council and who was behind the move to rename the park, created a helpful video explaining how the naming came to be and now to say the name correctly:

(snip)

“Learning to say the name is just a small way we can all be accountable to healing our relationship with our nation’s first peoples.”

And there you have it: It’s not just respect, or what was once passed off in the late 20th century as a form of cultural sharing, it’s obeisance. You will comply.

Here’s the takeaway: If a smiling leftist white woman puts on her smiley preschool teacher voice and tells you that something is all sunshine and lollipops, she’s lying. It’s always about the agenda, and the agenda is twofold:

Bilingual roadsigns are common in Western Montana...

Some of them are real head-scratchers.

I must admit I am forced to compliment you for consistently providing the most obscure, often difficult to chase down allusions on this whole danged forum.

And what’s worse, now I can remember that exact sketch back when it was aired on American TV.

In California, where I live, many streets and towns have Spanish or Indian names and some even have Indian (as in the sub-continent of) names.

But, I am reminded that they all are belong to us!

Elizabeth Warren is more Neanderthal than she is Native American!

So are nearly all of us White Americans and Europeans!

Too bad that we don’t know any Neanderthal names for tribes or nations! (Some linguists believe that we have hidden Neanderthal words in our modern languages, however. ???)

Some of the Indian names in Southern California are local, such as Azusa, from Ashuukshanga, meaning "skunk cabbage" in the Tongva language, but others such as Pasadena, Etiwanda and Cucamonga were imported from the Midwest.

I hope they don’t touch Lakeside Park in St. Catherine’s, not too far from Toronto. That’s Neil Pearts’ sacred place!
