MPs have approved the release of documents about Lord Mandelson's appointment as UK ambassador to the US, following a backlash from Labour backbenchers.

It comes after Sir Keir Starmer had insisted he would not publish information that could damage national security or UK diplomatic relations.

But after senior Labour MPs, including Angela Rayner, urged ministers to change course, they were forced to agree to involve a cross-party parliamentary committee in the process.

Sir Keir was under pressure to disclose the papers, after police launched a criminal investigation into claims Lord Mandelson passed sensitive government information to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The prime minister sacked Lord Mandelson as ambassador last year after new revelations about his friendship with Epstein came to light.

Emails showed the peer had sent supportive messages to Epstein as he faced jail in 2008 for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

Starmer/Mandelson scandal

Remember the former US ambassador Lord Mandelson?

Well, he was in more of the Epstein files that were just released and it looked really bad. Especially as Starmer vouched for him, possibly ignoring advice before his appointment as ambassador to the U.S.

More will be revealed as the government - who have a massive 200 seat majority in Parliament - lost a vote to release files related to the appointment 😳

Those will now be seen by the intelligence committee.

It's very serious and could bring Starmer down possibly precipitating a General Election as not to be seen as undemocratic.

There will certainly be calls for one if Labor change leader.

This story is one they want to sweep under the rug some background in my post that got taken down last night and it also includes how India’s PM Narendra Modi got mixed up with Epstein through an intermediary leading to business for Israel’s defense contractors...

LOL. Uh, yeah. Right. National security. That's the ticket. Actually, Starmer isn't releasing the files due to "backbencher pressure." He needs a distraction from his own scandal that is bubbling up - the gay prostitutes who are firebombing his houses and cars for some unknown reason.
