Kane became the highest-scoring United States-born player in NHL history, passing Mike Modano with an assist for his 1,375th point Thursday night for the Detroit Red Wings against the Washington Capitals.

"It's nice to have it over with in some ways and worry about the rest of the season," Kane said after Washington's 4-3 shootout win.

Kane passed the puck from the boards to Alex DeBrincat in the left circle, and DeBrincat set up Ben Chiarot for a tying goal from the point midway through the second period.

Madono would have been playing longer but concussions shortened things up. He was a sniper and skated great. La Fontaine in Buffalo had similar issues. It’s a great sport but just like getting old, it ain’t for sissies.

I still have my Modano jersey. He was fun to watch.

Yep. I think the overall greatest scorer is Ovechkin. He passed Gretzky last year. I wish a lot of these guys could hang on longer. I watched Gretzky and Demi Sevard back in my early days. There were and are some really talented young players. Hockey is the best sport to me. I’m prejudiced though my boy and his boy played in high school growing up. My wife yells at the tv when we watch games. Sarah Palin is right. Lipstick is all that separates hockey mom’s and grizzlies. 🙄
