This senior is officially on the clock.
A struggling 92-year-old Florida woman forced to continue working to cover her bills got a shocking financial boost this month, landing more than $65,000 in donations from complete strangers hoping to see her retire.
Muriel Connick was manning the dressing room at a Burlington store in Pompano Beach when customer April Steele spotted the elderly employee on her feet.
“There was no smile on her face. In fact she looked angry, I thought I would compliment her to try to make her smile, I said good for you to still be working, she looked at me angrily and said would you want to work at 92,” Steele recalled in a recently launched GoFundMe page.
As the two spoke, Connick told her she had no choice but to clock in and out at the chain store since she was still swimming in monthly bills.
“It’s the rent and it’s the car payment and the car insurance and the telephone, electricity and cable,” Connick listed for WSVN, noting her social security and other benefits don’t cover all her costs.
Her mobile home is also in need of costly new floors, the outlet reported.
But Steele was ready to step in, alerting a local Facebook page about Connick’s plight and starting a fundraiser that instantly took off.
As of Tuesday afternoon, $65,666 has been raised with donations still pouring in.

Heartwarming
Beautiful!
I hope I’m that hale and feisty if I make it to 92!
Yes, she does look very happy in the photo. Someone took the time to talk to her. Evidently no family to help her which sad to say is too common these days.
Charity should be personal not institutional. You can see a relationship in the photo.
Now, all of us should go find a person in real need of help, they are out there. It is risky investing in people, but eventually you learn how to do it.
My guess is she got taken by shysters.
I am glad that people are being generous to ease an old woman's life in what should be her retirement years but she sounds bitter.
America’s entire welfare state could (and should be) eliminated, and replaced with a completely voluntary, town/county based system of “GoFundMe.”
Local people will take care of those in their own communities. At the same time, recipients will prove need to the community overall. It will eliminate most slackers and fraud.
We used to have churches for things like this, but we are hardly a Christian nation anymore, so need some other means to provide help, at an efficient, local level.
And nobody had to create a government program or pass a law and you can’t unionize charity.

And while at 92 she is forced to work, I think a small part does enjoy waking up and having something to do—perhaps she can still work, just not so many hours. Work gives purpose and a sense of worth.
Americans! Only in America.
However, money that doesn’t come from work is often squandered. She may end up back in the same position.
Working to 92 has probably made her healthier, kept her mind sharp, and extended her life.
I’ll tell my wife that.
If you’re sure you want her to live that long...
Someone help her get a broadcast TV antenna and cut the cable bill. I helped my parents do that and they were shocked to see they got nearly the same number of channels on the antenna.
Yes. The “cable” bill got my attention.
Some people have no ability to manage money.
When I helped my parents cancel their cable, the service rep was aggressive in trying to convince them to stay.
Yes. People sell things to make money.
In a capitalist society, people should always be vigilant about what they are purchasing.
