Rand Paul made his name as a gadfly preaching about the dangers of a tyrannical federal government. Now, after the killings of two Minnesota residents at the hands of Homeland Security agents, the Kentucky Republican has a chance to do something about it.
The 63-year-old, who spent years on the outskirts of the party, is now at the center of the Senate’s response to the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, which have sparked new criticism of the administration’s immigration enforcement policies and raised many of the same civil liberties questions Paul has long been asking.
As chair of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, he’s already forced a trio of top immigration officials to agree to testify, publicly criticized the administration’s response to the Pretti shooting and even raised the possibility Congress might step in if the administration refuses to conduct an independent investigation of that incident.
“For people to have confidence in government and confidence in law enforcement … we have to be very honest,” Paul told reporters. “I don’t think anybody in America believes he was assaulting those officers, so we have to tell the truth.”
But Paul — who is already in President Donald Trump’s doghouse as an inconsistent GOP ally — is still walking a fine line.
He repeatedly refused this week to weigh in on if Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem should leave the administration, saying he was “reserving judgment for now.”

Schiffholes like Rand have to realize that stolen elections, open borders, invasions, and declared invasions, and closed borders, all have consequences.
I voted for obliteration and draining of any that enabled stolen elections, open borders, invasions, and FA since victim Trump of schiffhole Paul’s govt came down an escalator.
Dirt naps of enemies foreign and domestic haven’t piled up nearly as much as I would hope would happen if we are really serious about abolishing govt of the Swamp, by the Swamp, for the Swamp.. oh and govt for illegals and Somalians..

Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul’s reelection committee spent nearly $50,000 this summer on luxurious hotels, restaurants and travel services during a trip to Sweden and Denmark.
Expenses included $13,627 paid to Stockholm’s five-star Grand Hotel; $17,742 paid to a luxury travel service known as “Mr Charles,” of Stockholm, and $7,474 at some of the finest restaurants in Stockholm and Copenhagen, according to a report Paul filed recently with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
The FEC forbids candidates for federal office from using their campaign funds to pay for personal trips or any personal expenses.
But the spokesperson for Paul’s office said the Scandinavian travel was for the permissible purpose of fundraising — even though U.S. law bars citizens of other countries from giving to campaigns for federal office.
