A Republican senator will visit Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, later this week to have talks on the Arctic island's point of view, according to a Greenlandic lawmaker on Tuesday.
Lisa Murkowski will visit Greenland on Friday, Aaja Chemnitz, a Greenlandic member of the Danish parliament, told Danish TV2.
"The plan is that she will go to Nuuk to visit a number of influential people over the weekend to gain an understanding of the Greenlandic points of view," she noted.
The meeting came ahead of the upcoming negotiations in the working group that will negotiate a future agreement between Greenland, Denmark and the US.
Lingering tensions over Greenland continue following US President Donald Trump's controversial bid to acquire the Danish territory.
However, Trump softened his tone on acquiring the Danish territory last week after meeting NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Davos, Switzerland.
He announced that they discussed a framework deal on Greenland that would address his security concerns and counter Russian and Chinese influence.

She’s going to visit “influential people” in Greenland. This way she will be sure to get an unbiased opinion of all Greenlanders.

She’s going there to promise the locals set-aside US government contracts and introduce them to the lawyers who will get them incorporated just like their cousins in Alaska. She gets a piece of that for the Alaskan Natives (Eskimos) who have set-aside contracts. The corporations are just files in a DC law firm. They all get checks from the contracts and their employees who actually do the government “work” are marginal at best.
She’s gonna cherry pick Greenlanders who dirt Trump. Also l, why is this a Senator’s lane? Foreign policy?

Lisa is NOT my senator, she is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Alaska Natives Corporations.
And a closet Dem. We primary-ed out her once, but Alaska has no sore-loser law, so she ran as an Indy - and the Natives paid for her re-run.
Maybe a polar bear will get her.....would be sad for the bear.

Senators go on foreign junkets all the time. Greenland in January is not exactly a cushy vacation. You may be right, but I am hopeful that she just wants to make sure her interests get served by a deal. We’ll see.
In a cold environment like that, even Lisa might be able to get a Greenlander drunk enough to get laid.
She has no power of making a deal. Those folks will know she is a snake. They are not looking for a sympathetic ear, they will be looking for the best deal.
