I was in a nice small town in the foothills outside of Seattle today. Stopped at the fancy outlet mall they have. It was deserted. 20+ years ago we would go there with the kids for shopping and maybe an ice cream if they behaved. Back then the parking lots (perhaps 1000+ parking spots?) were full and crowds of people.
There were perhaps 50 cars parked. It looked like all of the stores were still open. I have no idea how they can stay in business. I can’t imagine the Christmas buying can sustain them.
But why drive 30 miles from the city when you can order whatever you need whenever you want? Sure not as memorable though.
North Bend?
I am guessing that with all the fraud possible with electronic “money” transactions, eventually incognito monetary transactions will give way to in-person trade.
