Yes I remember the bankruptcy, and the reason for it. Now that two units in Georgia are operating, and construction of the two units in South Carolina is resuming. Toshiba should have a better understanding of the costs involved as well as not having to recover the first of a kind development costs.
Full disclosure, I worked on the final balance of plant design for the AP-1000.
That is pretty cool!
You should check out Aalo in Austin they have there first unit going crit on July 4 with a host of others. It’s already been shipped to the national lab. Once it’s NRC licenced their already built factory in Austin is going to Henry Ford them. They are targeting 90 days from when a PPA is signed to first crit on site they are doing top down TBM type borehole drilling for containment ultrafast and super cheap it’s like a tunnel machine turned more down then chained back out the hole.
It’s a dry cooled sodium reactor which can and will be certified on MOX and also changed to fast spectrum for breeding or super long breed and burn cycles as in 10-25 year fuel cycles. They chose UOx fuel first because HALEU is not available from Rosatom anymore and the USA completely lacks the ability to make that fuel domestically. And since that traitor Carter killed our reprocessing program we have no MOX or Pu supply for metallic fast fuels. Maybe we can beg the French for some they do MOX so does the Chinese and Russia obviously only the USA is 30 years behind on this. F Carter and Clinton too when be shut down the IFR which worked so well it had to be killed or it would habe kicked off the fast breeder age. Can’t have that it would be too good got America hence why the Clintons killed it traitors the lot of them.
Check out the DOE :)
