A college basketball point-shaving scheme involving more than 39 players on 17 NCAA Division I teams resulted in dozens of games in the previous two seasons being fixed by a gambling ring that included a former NBA player, according to a federal indictment unsealed Thursday in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Twenty of the 26 defendants played college basketball during the 2023-24 and/or 2024-25 seasons, according to the indictment. Four of the players charged -- Simeon Cottle, Carlos Hart, Camian Shell and Oumar Koureissi -- have played for their current teams in the past week.

Back when I was younger, Catholic Universities were actually Catholic. But then, so was the Pope.
A far cry from when in 1980 Eddie DeBartolo Sr. tried to buy the White Sox and was rejected by the league owners because he owned horse racing tracks and was involved in gambling.

Oh I’m sure the government has a law on the books, I just think it is absurd to create a multi-billion dollar “non-profit” industry built on “amateur” athletes and then charge them for affecting the integrity of the game or causing gamblers to lose money.
observing some of the insane offensive calls in NCAA football this season plus mind-boggling numbers of dropped passes, it looks to me like pretty much everyone who plays or coaches the games are involved ...
and it’s even worse with the dropped passes in the NFL ...
and it’s all gonna get worse, much worse now that most of the sponsorship and ads seem to be gambling outfits, while the telecasters continuously put betting odds of various situations on-screen throughout the games ...
and easy enough to evade being caught too, just get a TRUSTWORTHY and somewhat distant relative to make the bets ...
