Glenn Hall, a Hockey Hall of Famer whose streak of 502 starts as a goaltender remains an NHL record, has died. He was 94.

A spokesperson for Chicago's NHL team confirmed the team received word of Hall's death from his family. A league historian in touch with Hall's son, Pat, said Hall died at a hospital in Stony Plain, Alta., on Wednesday.

Hall backstopped Chicago to the Stanley Cup in 1961 and was named the most valuable player of the playoffs in 1968 with St. Louis when the Blues reached the final before losing to Montreal.

Nicknamed "Mr. Goalie," Hall won the Calder Trophy as rookie of the year in 1956 when playing for the Detroit Red Wings. After two seasons, he was sent to Chicago along with legendary forward Ted Lindsay.

Hall was in net when Boston's Bobby Orr scored in overtime to win the Cup for the Bruins in 1970, a goal that's among the most famous in hockey history because of the flying through the air celebration that followed.

What a streak. Did they do back-to-backs back then?

A while back I was curious who was Glenn Hall’s back-up when the Hawks won the Stanley Cup in 1961 - and when I checked the records (if I recall correctly) he tended goal for every single game that season. I’m pretty sure a guy named Dennis DeJordy (spelling?) backed him up, but I’m not sure he every got off the bench and out between the pipes that year! It’s tough to imagine goalies in the today’s game with anywhere near that level of usage.

And back in the early 60’s goalies like Hall didn’t wear masks.

Odd that the author of the article has an aversion to saying the name “Blackhawks.”

A left wing bent would probably make that so and it’s almost a default position among the media these days. Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians fans can relate I imagine.

And back in the early 60’s goalies like Hall didn’t wear masks.

Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita curving their stick blades hastened the arrival of goalie masks.

The Communist Broadcasting Corporation has ALWAYS been known for being “Woker than Thou.”

They will not mention the names of pro-sports teams that “objectify” First Nations Communities, or historical personages.

Makes it even more impressive the Crosby’s stick blade is very close to no curve.

But I’m prejudiced when it comes to my Penguins.

Yes, since this writer is mentioning the names of other teams but not Chicago’s NHL team, it sure seems like this writer is making a political statement against the name of that team.
