A magnitude 6.2 earthquake, measuring a strong 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale, struck Shimane Prefecture at 10:18 a.m. on Tuesday. There was no threat of a tsunami. The initial quake was followed by a magnitude 5.1 temblor, measuring a lower 5 on the intensity scale, at 10:28 a.m.

Didnt they just announce recenlty that they wanted to start up the Fukushima Nuclear plant that was practically a nuclear disaster after am earthquake?

Bad enough to get NHK to go wall to wall for maybe two hours, just returned to regular programming. I haven’t heard yet from people in Matsue or our sister city of Imabari, but it doesn’t look like a lot of lasting damage.

Yes . This coming April will be the 10th anniversary of the two giant quakes we had down here in Kumamoto 2 weeks after we moved into our new house !
The 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes (Japanese: 平成28年熊本地震, Hepburn: Heisei 28-nen Kumamoto jishin) were a series of earthquakes,[2] including a magnitude 7.0 mainshock which struck at 01:25 JST on April 16, 2016 (16:25 UTC on April 15) beneath Kumamoto City of Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyushu Region, Japan, at a depth of about 10 kilometres (6.2 miles),[8] and a foreshock earthquake with a magnitude 6.2 at 21:26 JST (12:26 UTC) on April 14, 2016, at a depth of about 11 kilometres (6.8 miles).[4]
In total, the two earthquakes killed 277 people[9] and injured 2,809 others
