May soon echo the old Detroit joke.

A man was despondent. He wrote a farewell note to his family and walked out unarmed into the night in Detroit.

Downtown is actually quite safe with a very upscale, vibrant night life. Outside the periphery, not so much.

Niece is a an ER doctor at the VA and my sister and her family go downtown quite often.

Word of warning tho, if you don't know how to get to where you're going or intend to park, stay away. Driving downtown is an absolute nightmare. Tremendous traffic, one way streets, right turns only....etc.

As a young, professional single person who works down there, living in any of the lofts or condos downtown, it would be great. But once you get married and decide to have a family, you move out to the suburbs.

The downtown area is slowly expanding outwards, with the abandoned houses and vacant lots being purchased by investors.

Living down there has a downside tho. You have to drive out to the Pointes for market shopping and you have to send your kids to school there or any of the suburban schools.
