If you do something well enough that people will pay to watch you do it, that is a real job. The colleges were involved in restraint of trade, and most have become less interested in providing an education for these student-athletes than in cashing in on being gatekeepers to the NFL and NBA. Of course the people putting on a show want a piece of the action.
