It’s too late to go back to the good old days. The only reasonable solution is to make players sign four year contracts guaranteeing to stay at the college in return for a guaranteed income, like professional athletes.

That is a reasonable suggestion. The people who just want the players to go back to being strict amateurs, one injury away from permanent catastrophe, while drawing big money for the school that they don't get except in the form of scholarships, special treatment, and money under the table, is NOT a solution. There is just too much money involved.
