Had a friend whose son had the same condition. He killed a family friend. Only then did they put him away. Even if the Reiners had the resources being committed would have presented legal roadblocks.

Yes, just so. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get any help for the seriously mentally ill in this country. Neurotic, depressed, sure you can get help with that.
OUT OF YOUR MIND INSANE, nope, just carry on as best you can. And if you murder your parents, your children, or a stranger on the street, well then perhaps we’ll lock you up.
It’s a complete disgrace. And this dreadful event shows that no matter how much money you have, you still can’t get any REAL help.
Anyone who thinks that Reiner’s politics, or Donald Trump had anything to do with this is just wrong. And that include DJT.
A close friend's brother developed schizophrenia back in the early 80's. The brother was living on a beach in northern Michigan and my friend tried to get him committed.
The local judge, who was a family friend, couldn't do anything until the brother became either a danger to others or himself.
Finally, in the fall when winter was setting in, my friend was able to get the brother committed to the state hospital. He was only there until he was properly medicated.
That was only the beginning. His history of schizophrenia was filled with many stories.
It's a very horrible disease.
