As long as you have Obamacare, you will need to subsidize it. It’s the nature of the program.

If you take away the subsidies then the ordinary people who rely on it will either lose their coverage, or go bankrupt trying to keep it.

This is all on John McCain.

“...This is all on John McCain...”

Yep. Fully agree.
The one chance to put the wooden spike into the heart of Obamacare for good, and this vile SOB held the deciding vote and votes “NO” and did it out of sheer spite.
He really cost this country a lot over his so-called “career”.
He was not a hero, but a loser. He didn’t even make a good RINO. He was no “maverick”, but a no-good RAT dressed up in GOP clothing...traitor? More than likely.
They say “not to speak ill of the dead”, but it says nothing about speaking the truth....good riddance to bad rubbish.
Thanks for nothing, McCain.

In addition to making people face the music and pay the cost of the ACA, by avoiding taxpayer subsidies to the program overall, you have to make the program transparent down to the premium payer level. Each insured under an ACA-regulated insurance coverage should be able to review their premium statement to see how much they are paying for their own coverage and how much they are subsidizing others (or being subsidized by others). I think that last detail is what will destroy political support for the ACA.

These four are classic Republicans, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
