By that logic the President of the United States may arbitrarily shoot down passenger jets providing they are not in American airspace.
Drug trafficking is just an excuse for a regime change operation. Feel better now?
Am I supposed to feel better because the motive for murder is not to prevent introduction of drugs into the country but a lie to justify a different political motive? We both know killing people on the high seas who could easily have been apprehended does not actually prevent drugs from getting into the United States-because most of these drugs come from Mexico.
We declared war on drugs generations ago and have lost it every year since. Part of the casualties of that war is the loss of our own liberties and now it is to make the United States an international criminal. United States does not have a special license immunizing it from committing international aggression. Our Constitution requires a declaration of war or at least some consultation with Congress. Even so, the president may not wantonly murder individuals such as these people at sea who could have been safely captured. Even at war, we may not murder prisoners or those otherwise defenseless as these men at sea were.
I do not feel better because we are being lied to about why we are murdering people on the high seas.
