Medical assistance in dying (MAID) is a leading cause of death in Canada, ranking as the fifth most frequent cause of death in 2023, tied with cerebrovascular diseases.
Since being introduced in Canada the number of MAID deaths have increased yearly and several people are choosing it even when their medical condition isn't terminal and in some cases when their death is based on mental stress caused by a variety of non-terminal illnesses.

Diseases of the heart: 57,890 deaths
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 20,597 deaths
