There is a credible economic and business case for supersonic air travel. The last years of the Concorde demonstrated that supersonic airline travel was a deluxe service that could command a deluxe price so as to be profitable.

In the near future, supersonic flight will be a premium service limited to major routes. Small jet on demand air travel with high end amenities will become more common. Meanwhile, subsonic mass market airline travel is likely to gradually become more comfortable under the pressure of such competition.

A decade from now, we may have blended wing body airliners with massive internal spaces, comfortable theater style seating, and food, beverage, shopping, and entertainment amenities like a high end mini-mall.

The upper end of the market may inspire envy, but it helps to improve the mass market.
