DFW is building a new terminal. And it’s a pain the traffic now is awful there due to the construction.
Fun fact DFW was designed for 13 semi circular terminals you can see the remnants of that design in sat photos only 4 were built but you can clearly see where the other semi circular terminals would go. Total gate count as 240+ with drive and fly parking in each center of the semi circle. It was fundamentally different design from an era when it was expected for people to drive up park and fly for short duration trips not the hub and spoke model that Denver and Atlanta used.
The construction should not affect the main lanes in the center of the airport. What is the construction? I have not been there in a while so I have not seen DFW. I retired so thankfully I have not flown out of there in a year.
Also what a monster DFW could have been...
How about a mile plus long terminal building taking one whole half of the airport semi circle spots.
Moving sidewalks would have made it a 15 min “walk” from end to end. 100+ gates and they wanted to then put a second one across the central parkway once it was built. 200+ gates and another runway crammed in too. There was even separate plans to put in STOL runways of 1500-2000 feet between some of the full sized ones for airtaxi and short takeoff point to point flights to small regional general aviation airports. Imagine leaving McKinney airport and 10 min later being at the gate on the air size past security vs the 45+ min drive and then an hour plus through TSA. You would do security at the FOB in McKinney then get on an STOL 4-12 seat airtaxi directly to the STOL runways at DFW then directly to the airtram system to take you to any terminal and gate in under 10 min. What it could have been.
