In one of the worst blowouts in Super Bowl history, the Kansas City Chiefs failed their attempt to three-peat as the Philadelphia Eagles were crowned the new NFL champions.
There are many factors at play in a loss like this, but no one could ignore two of the biggest missteps: In the second quarter, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw two interceptions, both of which resulted in touchdowns. Before the first interception, the score was 10-0. Shortly after the second one, the Eagles led 24-0.
After the game, Mahomes could have tried to shift the blame. He could have talked about how hard it is to complete passes when you’re getting chased by large men who want to punish you like you stole something from them. (The Chiefs’ offensive line allowed the Eagles to sack Mahomes six times, the most in his career.) Or he could have blamed the refs, as he has famously done in the past.
But he didn’t. Instead, he pointed the finger at himself.
“Credit to the Eagles, man,” Mahomes said in his press conference. “They played better than us from start to finish.”
“Obviously the turnovers hurt,” Mahomes continued. “I take all the blame for that…. It’s hard to come back from that in a Super Bowl.”
Over and over, Mahomes put the blame on himself.
Contrast that with the way many respond to major failure—especially one that is noticed by others. Often, those at fault try to find others to blame.
But guess what? Nobody cares.
“That’s the beauty of football,” Mahomes said. “You never can be satisfied with just going out there and playing and thinking you’re going to have success year in and year out. These defenses are going to continue to get better and better. And so, I have to get better.

Great quarterback currently having a less than par year for him. Class act
Agreed. Another example this year is Baker Mayfield. It's almost getting like football is getting ok again.
The previous year’s quarterback of the losing team took all the blame, even though it was elsewhere, and he is outright vilified by the media and they lie about him.
I know this thread is not about politics, but one thing democrats always do without fail... They ALWAYS blame others for the things they are directly responsible for.
Good on Mahomes for not acting like a democrat.
“Instead, he pointed the finger at himself.”
He has spiritual intelligence too.
First thing he did when one of his linemen got hurt tonight was to say a prayer.
Now, almost the whole starting offensive line is out.
Old Texans vs New Texans.
Good one.
That is the ongoing mindset of MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the entire OKC NBA Thunder team. After they won a playoff game by something like 40 points, this was his response: “We’ll have to watch the tape and see how we can get better.” Just like Curry changed basketball by introducing the 3s approach, SGA is introducing the focused, continual improvement approach.
With their defense, the Texans can win the AFC.
