Russian cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev has been dropped from the main crew of the Crew-12 mission two and a half months before the planned launch. The information was relayed on Telegram by rocket-launch analyst Georgiy Trishkin. According to sources, such a replacement is caused by a probable violation of ITAR export restrictions – the rules that govern the export of U.S. military technologies.
Sources claim that the cosmonaut allegedly photographed SpaceX documentation and materials, and then carried secret data on his phone.
Timeline of events and context Telegram channel “Yuro, sorry!” also claims that Artemyev, who was undergoing training at SpaceX’s Hawthorne facility, was removed after he “photographed SpaceX engines and other internal materials on his phone,” and then carried data off the base premises.
On December 2, Roscosmos confirmed Artemyev’s replacement by Andriy Fedyaev in the main Crew-12 crew. “The decision was made in connection with Oleg Artemyev’s transition to other work,” says the Russian space agency.
Artemyev is 54 years old. He is a Hero of Russia. The cosmonaut has flown three missions and spent 560 days in space. Since 2019, he has served as a deputy in the Moscow City Duma from the ruling party United Russia.
The Crew-12 mission, whose launch is expected in February 2026, is being carried out under the NASA–Roscosmos exchange program.

Oh my Spying
When you think of the cameras on a Tesla, you can easily imagine how a SpaceX vehicle is decked out. Anyone taking pictures “discretely” would be spotted tout de suite.
That’ll get you a one-way ticket to The Lubyanka.
My bet is on a penal battalion.
Probably just as “trustworthy” as this bozo.
Where Putin sends his presidential rivals to die, or to fight the Ukrainians and die. He’s a “national hero”. Short life span.
Maybe he’ll be patriotic and volunteer for active duty at the front, bound to cheer the troops seeing the famous are really patriotic enough to join them on the same meat waves.
My bet is on a penal battalion.
Nah. But he will probably spend the rest of his time at the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
That sounds likely. Russia’s great at that. And then when he falls in combat, they have a day of mourning and a recruitment drive, and from that year on, a national holiday where they hate on Ukraine.
Also, the espionage was a patriotic act. For the Rodina, he was willing to undermine those evil Americans.
He’s probably dead already.
Vlad doesn’t fool around.
Yeah, but he’ll officially die in battle in a few weeks. Maybe a movie will be released where he makes an inspirational speech before charging fearlessly into the Ukrainian defenses, and takes out a machine gun nest while taking a chest wound that kills him. All his comrades weep for him, then get up and shout, NA OLEG! NA RODINU! DAVAIETE! RAAAAAAAAAAAAR!
That’s how Eisenstein would stage it, anyway.
Lol...aren’t you an Israeli?
Maybe you should be sitting this one out.
American expat living in Israel, dual citizenship.
Exactly.
