The article answered itself. An artificial shortage to induce technological change.

Is integrated storage an improvement on RAM?

There 3 major RAM manufacturers. They can make much more money/profits manufacturing the complex RAM that AI data centers are gobbling up.

And Micron/Crucial just announced they are dropping out of making consumers and retail level RAM. All production from them will be devoted to AI data centers. So this leaves only two majors. Samsung and Hynix in South Korea.

You plan to buy a new HP or Dell laptop in 2026. You be paying more, due to soaring RAM prices.

The new Apple M series processors based on ARM have the CPU, GPU and RAM integrated on one chip.

The advantage is that the CPU talks directly to the RAM with no latency or delay.

The disadvantage is that you cannot upgrade the RAM unless you buy a new computer.
