Part of my job is refurbishing old PCs to be put back in service since my agency can only buy so many new ones a year.

They are basic small form factor Dell PCs.

I swap the old HDD for a SSD and up the RAM to 16 GB and they run great.

“They are basic small form factor Dell PCs.”

I bought one used on ebay last week. OptiPlex desktop SFF 5000 / i5-12500 / 32gb ram / The 32gb was crucial to me buying it. This way I do not have to buy any more ddr4.

But 16gb is good enough for most people. There are many Dell business class computers (OptiPlex) and desktop and (Latitude, Precision) laptops. They all can run Mint Linux if you prefer. Dell has been selling Linux computers for years. I turned one 150$ Latitude 5520 / 11th gen Intel/ 8gb RAM into a Chromebook.

I am considering having that done with an older HP desktop PC. And getting the OS upgraded to Win11 (cause I am lazy old and don’t care to invest in learning Linux) because some web connections don’t like the security level coming from a Win7 PC no matter what browser is running. But, I fear I will lose some apps on my PC a that are too old for Win11. What’s your thoughts?
