A holiday gathering in the coastal town of Sainte-Anne turned tragic Friday evening when a vehicle barreled into residents preparing for Christmas festivities, killing at least 10 people and injuring 19 more in the French Caribbean overseas region.
The collision occurred at Schoelcher Square, directly opposite the town hall and local church, where families and volunteers were assembling for upcoming celebrations, according to reports. Firefighters, paramedics, and police converged rapidly on the scene, treating the wounded and cordoning off the area. Sainte-Anne’s mayor arrived shortly after the incident and activated a municipal crisis unit to coordinate victim support and crisis response.

Among the injured, three individuals remain in serious condition, according to local media outlet Radio Caraïbes Internationale Guadeloupe. Investigators are now working to establish how the tragedy unfolded. Witnesses interviewed by the station suggested the driver may have suffered a sudden medical event while operating the vehicle, a possibility that authorities are assessing but have not yet confirmed. The driver reportedly did not flee and stayed at the scene.
The calamity has cast a profound pall over the community, interrupting the island’s normally spirited preparations for the holiday season and prompting expressions of grief across Guadeloupe.
Friday’s disaster recalls a similar episode in Magdeburg, Germany, last December, when a driver accelerated into a crowded Christmas market just days before the holiday. That attack killed at least two people and injured more than 60 others. German authorities arrested the driver, identified as a 50-year-old Saudi doctor who had lived in the country since 2006.

The first thing the local authorities will say is “it wasn’t Islamic terrorism”, even if it was.
Just an out of control “car.” That’s all.

Unfortunately, today’s kids are being taught that the Crusaders were the bad guys.
My former pastor said that once. I used to attend a methodist church, and distinctly remember her saying the crusades were a mistake. I just shook my head.
