“ The mother was there when it happened. She came outside screaming for help.”

Suicidal empathy. Something like this:

Oh the poor puppies... we have to feed and keep them because no one else wants them...

We don’t have the time and discipline to properly control them, but we cannot bear to have them put down...

A Pit Bull is a BOMB that can detonate at any moment.

EXTERMINATE THE BREED.

I would never leave a 3 month old with a grandfather

It sounds like an individual family situation, not a fast rule for other families where grandfathers can be trusted to care for their 3 month old grandchild.

“’Until the moment it snapped”

That’s just it. PB mauls a family member (or anyone) to death, and

1) Owners are telling the full truth when they say their PB has never shown any aggression ever.

Or

2. Owners are lying when they say their PB has never shown any aggression ever.

Or

3. Owners are oblivious when they say their PB has never shown any aggression ever.

So which scenario says cuddly precious pooch just wants love, all cultu.. creatures are equal, any pet could go for the jugular — poodle, bichon frise...

Seems to be some odd psychology going on whereby rescuing these savage beasts is like wearing a religion on the sleeve.

For as long as the owners’ arms are still attached, anyway.

Innocent baby never had a chance.

Whatever happened to an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure?

Leaving a kid with a grandfather was normal way back then.

Leaving a kid with a pack of dogs, much less pit bulls, in the house... was not.

And back then, if someone had a pack of dogs terrorizing the neighborhood, the dogs would have been killed on the first offense by an irate neighbor.

Not sure this was granddad’s place. It may be he was just visiting the house, or had to move in, and the dogs may have been his kids.

People get pit bulls because people are vain and trying to look tough, compensate for their inferiority complexes, or because they are idiots. Worse, the Next Big Thing/Fad for narcissistic people is the cane corso.

‘Sounds like a unique situation’

My FIL was salt of the earth nice guy. Veteran, home builder. Gentleman. He pushed the stroller for a minute when we were all at the zoo and my child would have been bear meat if I hadn’t kept an eye on matters

He was relegated to doing crosswords and drinking scotch - with me. My MIL would take over the house that’s a different story

Oh. Poker and candy land.

Welp, they’re put down now.

Yes. Rather late. Should have been done sooner.

It can become expensive. There have been numerous people, here on freerepublic, who say only a veternarian should be allowed to put down domestic animals.

When I was growing up, it was a mark of respect that a man killed his own dog when it needed to be done.

I read elsewhere that they all lived with the 50-year-old’s mom. Apparently, 6 people are now homeless because of the house being condemned. There’s a Go Fund me page for them. Sounds like help - mental as well as financial - should have been provided before this happened.

I know and I think it is worse now. I remember when the hoods used to patrol looking for rental car tags. Easy money they called it.

People have to have freedom to let themselves, and others in their care, be killed or die.
I think this is what we see here.

>> "It’s mostly poor people that own them. Might explain why they’re poor." <<

Nah, it's mostly stupid, "look at me and my bad ass dog" people that own them. On top of that, they have no clue about raising, caring, training any dog to begin with.

“I would never leave a 3 month old with a grandfather”

This should go on the Freeper list of historical brainless comments.

Agree. We just don’t need that dog breed in the line up.

EVERY pitbull owner has said "He's just a sweetie, would never hurt a fly".

I don't know what planet these people are from, but a "sweetie" is not the description I'd use.

Your comment seems unusually low IQ, even with all the other low IQ posts lately.

Nothing personal against you, I’m simply making an objective categorization of posts.

But the pitbulls were in the typical pitbull condition, it seems.

Vicious and deadly, of no value whatsoever. Worthy only of immediate execution.

But you can control pitbulls. The only real way to control them is with hollowpoints, or really any style of well-placed projectiles.
