I don't know. I pay attention to the strength of schedule rankings as a gauge of how good a team is. Of the top 10 in the CFP I see:

1) Ohio State is only #52 in SOS.
2) Indiana is #60.
3) Georgia is #34.
4) Texas Tech is #64.
5) Oregon is # 50.
6) Ole Miss is #49.
7) Texas A&M is #44.
8) Oklahoma is #13.
9) Bama is #17.
10) Notre Dame is #33.

Maybe, just maybe, IU's performance is because they haven't played the kind of gauntlet that the Sooners and Bama have played. In the playoffs when IU and Ohio State have to play other big boys, how well will they do? Maybe one of them will keep shining because they are that good. Or maybe they'll get exposed as looking good only because of their middle-of-the-pack competition. We'll see soon.

IU beat Oregon in Eugene- a near impossible task...

IU also went into State College and beat PSU who, though a bitter disappointment this season, played that game like it was their Super Bowl and like everyone expected the pre-season #2 team in the nation to play all season long...

SOS is a bs indicator as well. It’s takes in biased ratings from ESecPN to create the SOS.
