I don’t think a .22 is considered a “pellet”

In these United States, air rifles are commonly sold in .177 and .22 caliber. Air rifles in .25 caliber also exist but are much rarer. Regardless of caliber, air rifle projectiles are generally referred to as pellets.

Take a look at the air rifle section on, for example, the Cabela's website. Modern air rifles have come a long way from that Red Ryder BB gun you played with eons ago.

Most people don’t know it, but the Lewis and Clark expedition carried very powerful air rifles with them that were fully capable of killing humans and game.

Went thru BCT at Ft. Fix NJ in 1969. One of our training mods. was called quick-kill we Were given daisy bbguns that had plastic furnicher on them to look like m16s.pairing up one of us would flip a silver dollar sized coin in the air while the other would try to shoot it to train is in instinctive shooting.One of the few fun things in basic trainimng!
