A manhunt continues for the people believed to have been behind the Stockton-area mass shooting that killed four and injured 11 at a child's birthday party.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office said the attack appears to have been targeted. The ages of the victims who were killed were 8, 9, 14 and 21.
Family of the 14-year-old identified him as Amari Peterson, a teen who was simply "in the wrong place at the wrong time." The 21-year-old was identified by family and friends as Susano Archuleta. The 8-year-old who died was a third-grade student with the Stockton Unified School District. SUSD will offer counseling services in the wake of the tragedy.
Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said the shooting took place just before 6 p.m. Saturday at a banquet hall in the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue at Thornton Road, where the birthday party was happening with between 100 and 150 people in attendance.

Patrice Williams told The Associated Press Monday that she had organized the party to celebrate her daughter's 2-year-old birthday and that the shots rang out as partygoers were getting ready to cut the cake.
"All we heard was gunshots, and everybody just dove to the ground. It was just unexpected," she recalled.
Williams said she initially thought the sound of gunshots was balloons popping.
She said her daughter was unhurt, but her daughter's father lost two nieces in the shooting.
"My sister actually got shot. My cousin got shot. My son's friend got shot. Three of my friends got shot," Williams said.

“The observation that the longer it takes the media to identify a mass
shooter in the United States, the less likely it is to be a white male.”
Oh I agree. The guy could be all the way to Mexico or Canada by now.
Such a tragic situation & my heart goes out to the families. But on the other hand, 150 ppl at a party for a 2 yo is a little excessive & seems weird to me. I think there’s a lot more to this story.
Probably retribution for dishonest dealing with illegal drug trade. Am taking bets/sarc
Stockton? No way!/s
It didn’t take long for the GoFundMe to pop up.

These kids of celebrations have very little to do with the kid and everything to do with the mother’s or sometimes grandmother’s neediness for attention.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some drug related vendetta is involved, either.
At least First Partner Jennifer Seibel Newsome had some consoling words to say.
Back in the late 80s through the late 90s I was a prosecutor in a smallish community. We had one “club” that was the most popular hangout for the black folk. Nearly every weekend there was a fight or two, some involving guns, some knives. One such fight ended up with a fellow dead. Of the 100 or so in the club at the time, no one saw ‘nut’ in.’ And to a man, each one said they were in the bathroom at the time of the shooting. To this day we can’t figure out how 100 folks fit into a 5x8 bathroom.

They had two bathrooms? men’s and women’s
Plus all 100 were blind and went into wrong room like a supply closet?
I’ll bet it wasn’t over any kind of cryptocurrency beef or short-selling of stock. The perp’s and their motives always seem to fit one stereotypical profile or another.
Stockton is Oakland’s psycho little brother.
Remember this is Stockton, where in 1989 a bad anti-gun bill was written, and shelved.
Then the State released Pat Purdy from a mental institution, allowed him to buy a rifle and handgun over the counter, passing waiting periods and background checks, all in violation of State and Federal Laws.
He then went and shot up the Stockton School yard killing several students and himself.
The shelved bill was pulled out and passed before opposition could be mounted against it.
Watch this shooting closely and see if the State Legislature and governor has similar bills ready to pass in a moment of panic.
